Submitted by our JAG student Neviah T., we honor Mae Jemison, an engineer, physician, and the first African American woman in space. In 1992, she flew aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour, breaking barriers and inspiring future generations in STEM. Beyond her historic spaceflight, Jemison has dedicated her career to advancing science, education, and technology, proving that the sky is never the limit!

On Wednesday, MACAâs freshman class had the chance to hear from an amazing lineup of speakersâincluding MACA alumni, a recruiter from the Army National Guard, our school counselor, and a senior recently named Student of the Year!
These inspiring guests shared valuable advice on the many paths available after graduation and the importance of academic excellence to reach their goals.
After the seminar, our freshmen enjoyed a snack and connected with their student mentors, who shared their own high school experiences and tips for success.

As a principal dancer with the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, she captivated audiences worldwide with her powerful performances. Later, as the companyâs artistic director, she carried on Aileyâs legacy, mentoring new generations of dancers and expanding opportunities for Black artists in the world of dance.

She made history in 2002 as the first Black woman to win the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in Monsterâs Ball. Beyond acting, Berry has excelled as a producer and entrepreneur, using her platform to advocate for diversity in Hollywood and support causes like domestic violence awareness and diabetes research.
